Never underestimate basketball’s influence on Philippine culture.

Hece, why I was distressed when I read this (homophobic) statement from FEU Tamaraw’s Jens Knuttel:

“…management told us na para kaming mga bading maglaro. papatunayan namin sa game 2 na hindi kami mga bading” (quoted from Pinoy Exchange)

Well. The world of sports is not exactly the beacon of LGBT rights but still this is college basketball and coming from an individual (the coach, the management – whoever they are) representing a supposedly higher institution of learning – such remarks should not be tolerated and must be dealt with.

I wonder why Ang Ladlad has not issued any statement or any condemnation of sorts. Do they themselves believe that queers have no place in the athletic field and therefore can not shoot a goal, knock out an opponent or run a marathon? Is it because it didn’ t hit close to home base?

As for Jens Knuttel. Maybe he is a nice kid and he’s just caught in the jock culture. But still, he should have taken the opportunity to say something LGBT positive instead of opening his mouth and – or in this case posting on his Twitter…

Okay. I get it. Standing up for LGBT rights is too much to ask from a jock.

And yes, Jens – di ka nga bading.

What this “evolved” (inaaang!) human being told one of our members in that jologs-riddled Facebook anti-gay page called “Di Bale Nang Magnakaw, Wag Lang Mamakla“:

Francis Juanito Jalmasco Go: tama sa saudi bawal bakla. wag ka pupunta dun sam mendez. be careful going to saudi. your kind is forbidden there. u cant work there.^_^

“OUR KIND”?!

Based on experience, the only sort of critters who would resort to pulling the “your kind” card are those who have yet to prove their worth on a lot of things and, are therefore very insecure about it.

In short: lemmings. In shorter: loser.

Honestly, scumbags like these should be banned from breeding. Poor kid (if that is his kid in the pic):

‘day, tip lang: bago ka maglakas-loob na umaway ng “our kind”, magtutbras ka muna, hane?

Itago na lang natin sya sa pangalang “Gino Antonio Talag Reyes” (Gino Antonio? Yung pene-actor nung 8Os? Huwaw), hane?
